A user account may be protected from malicious use by means of one or more authentication methods, including passwords, biometrics, and hardware keys. Often a user account is created along with a personal (and sometimes restricted) space on the system's storage medium. User accounts are commonly created by the system's administrator, but other users may also be given that option.
