I've had a lot of difficulty with my CR-5 Pro not reading the micro SD card. I was up and running but got the "blue screen" yesterday and re-flashed the main board using instructions I found on YouTube. But the software version showing up now is older than what was on the machine as delivered and the printer will not run a gcode file even when I can select it. Trying to re-flash using the SD card is NOT happening. The SD card that came with the machine is 8Gb "Netoc" and is formatted as FAT32. I have a 32Gb SanDisk which I've formatted also as FAT32 but neither card will re-flash the main board. Can I upload the firmware via USB like I can on an Arduino?

You can't update the firmware with a USB cable if this is e.g. a 4.2.7 board. You need to put the firmware.bin file on a microSD card and reboot the printer.

Please know that the bootloader on Creality boards is a little different in that it requires that the firmware filename needs to be different from the previous that has been used before. It is required to start with firmware and must have the .bin extension. If you compiled your own version of Marlin with e.g. VSCode and PlatformIO, the complier creates a firmware.bin file, this should be rename to ha a suffix behind the firmware part, but maintain the .bin extension

It could be that the controller board isn't accepting the SD card. Usually, large SD cards aren't read by the board, but 8 GB cards should generally work.

Find a smaller SD card to work with, I always have an old 2 GB SD card to use, others sometimes just don't work (larger ones).

Alternatively, you could make the board think it is a smaller card. Using a disk/partitioning utility you should repartition the SD into 4 or 8 GB of usable drive space with the rest being unpartitioned and unusable. This small partition should be formatted to FAT32 and try to flash the new firmware with this card.

Have you tried the .bin files on the SD Card and flashing it that way? If not, you can always use the slicer software that came with it like Creality or I use Cura and through the USB try re-flashing the software that way.
