I am an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Saint Mary. Under the supervision of Hailong Dao, I received my Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Kansas. Generally, I am interested in commutative algebra and its connections to additive number theory and combinatorics. I have enjoyed thinking about the stratification of non-Gorenstein Cohen-Macaulay local rings (e.g., numerical semigroup rings).

Outside of academia, I enjoy (and continue to pursue) music composition, music criticism, exercise, and outlandish humor. I am a trained jazz drummer and freelance multi-instrumentalist. Over the last decade-and-a-half, I have recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered many records. I have delighted in making music both as a solo artist and in collaboration with others. Listen to some of those below. Sufjan Stevens is my favorite musician.

"Patience. Belief. Love. We are brothers Zach and Dylan Beck. Heidi Klum's Bangs began as a bedroom psych folk project in early 2009 and soon evolved into a full-on, multi-instrumental indie rock act in the vein of Neutral Milk Hotel, Circulatory System, Beirut, and Sufjan Stevens. With our ethereal instrumentals and stream-of-consciousness lyrics, we create a musical universe unlike any." Listen to Heidi Klum's Bangs on Spotify or BandCamp.

"If you’re wanting to get into some pleated looks and stuff of a different nature, you need look no further whatsoever. A Real Echoey Approach originates from the fertile mind of Dylan C. Beck (Carlo dell'Aquila, Heidi Klum's Bangs, Two Cellophane Maps), whose aim is to conjure inexplicable beauty in fragments of noise." Listen to A Real Echoey Approach on Spotify or BandCamp. "Uniting once again, Dylan C. Beck and Danilo Uomo are Carlo dell'Aquila. Conceived originally as a spiritual successor to late-era Talk Talk, Carlo dell'Aquila combines the haunting lyricism of Sufjan Stevens with the swirling dream pop of the Antlers and cosmic mysticism of the Microphones; the result is a sound that demands to be heard."
