Hello I work as data scientist for a private company. I am interested in working for a nonprofit company, such as a research institute (public or private) or a company that takes care of issues such as environment, public health, social improvements. Even an internet company like Wikipedia can be interesting. Does anybody know if nonprofit companies hire data scientists?

I see at least five ways to approach this problem of finding a data scientist position/work specifically at non-profit, non-governmental or similar organizations, as I describe below. I hope that this is helpful.

It might be a good idea to start with voluntary work and see if that leads to payed position. DataKind, that has been mentioned above, is where I would start, especially if you live in England, since you can register your interest online and even do work with them as a data scientist for a weekend in a meetup event.

There are also various meetups in many cities where it's likely to find people working on nonprofit companies and expand your network.
